We took a trip up to Sidney, BC this weekend to attend Tara and James' wedding. It was so much fun to see old friends from Trinity... Michelle and RJ, Laura, Christina, Mike and Sarah, Dave, and Lauren. We stayed up talking with RJ and Michelle Friday evening, catching up on their kids, work, and life (it had been 4 years since we'd seen RJ and even more since we'd seen Michelle). All of us were struck by the joy and ease in being together. We talked about how challenging it is to make deep friends in new cities with regular lives... and how it takes so much time and energy to go deeper with new people. But sitting down with old friends can be such a gift; you feel understood from the get-go... and there is a sense of acceptance and of being known that often isn't there with new relationships.
I'm grateful for our weekend and excited for Tara and James. It is so fun to see them together.
And the trip to their wedding was so refreshing. We drove to Anacortes, left our car at my parents and walked on the ferry to Sidney. I love riding the ferry on a sunny day. At the back of the boat it was warm and barely breezing... just being in the setting of the San Juans makes me feel overwhelmed by the beauty of creation. Thank you, heavenly Father, for allowing me to live in a place where such beauty is right around the corner.

i wish so much that we could take a ferry ride together. next time I am home, maybe we can do that. i think i am learning to appreciate the beauty I see down here more and more. I see nothing like the greens and blues of home, but i still enjoy the trees with their colorful fruit and huge flowers in purples, pinks, reds and more. it is different, but beautiful.
